Research Fund Partners with University of Nairobi towards Implementation of Directive on Tree Planting

The National Research Fund Chairman, Prof. Ratemo Michieka, leads the NRF staff in planting trees at the Upper Kabete Campus, University of Nairobi.   The activity is geared towards realizing the Government’s initiative of planting 15 billion trees by 2032 to reduce greenhouse emissions and stop and reverse deforestation in the country.

Being a State Corporation, NRF has adopted a tree planting initiative and committed to being part of the National Tree Growing & Restoration Campaign to plant 15 billion trees, translating to 30 percent of tree cover by 2030 in line with the Presidential directive.

Speaking at the event, Prof Dickson Andala, NRF CEO, said that the National Research Fund commended the partnership with the University of Nairobi as a strategic partner towards attaining the 15 billion trees target. He added that NRF would collaborate with other Universities across the country to plan at least 10,000 trees every year.

During this exercise, NRF planted 2,000 trees.

Prof. Michieka was accompanied by NRF Board members Mr Mutinda Ngei, Prof Oyawa, NRF CEO, Prof. Dickson Andala, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Nairobi, members of the staff, and students in the Faculty of Agriculture.
