NRF Strengthens Health Research Collaboration Through Strategic Visit to KEMRI

The National Research Fund (NRF) reinforced its commitment to advancing health research and innovation following a strategic visit to the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI).

The visit was attended by NRF Chief Executive Officer Prof. Dickson Andala alongside Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Science, Research and Innovation. The engagement provided an opportunity for NRF to interact with Kenya’s leading health research institution and reaffirm its role in mobilizing and financing research, strengthening capacity, and supporting innovation within the health sector.

Discussions highlighted NRF’s contribution to enabling high-quality research and postgraduate training aimed at addressing national and regional health challenges. By supporting initiatives at KEMRI and similar institutions, NRF is helping to build a skilled scientific workforce, promote responsible research practices, and accelerate innovations with real-world impact, including diagnostics, vaccines, and public health solutions. Through strategic partnerships and funding mechanisms such as the STI Fund and competitive research grants, NRF continues to strengthen Kenya’s research ecosystem—ensuring that scientific discoveries translate into practical interventions that support improved health outcomes and broader socio-economic development.
