NRF and Kenya Fisheries Service Explore Research Collaboration for a Sustainable Blue Economy
As part of ongoing stakeholder engagements for the Kenya National Research Festival (KNRF) 2025, the National Research Fund (NRF) held a strategic meeting with the Kenya Fisheries Service (KeFS) to explore opportunities for collaboration in fisheries research and sustainable aquatic resource management.
The delegation was led by NRF CEO Prof. Dickson Andala and KNRF 2025 Festival Chair Prof. Vasey Mwaja. Discussions focused on the role of research and innovation in advancing Kenya’s blue economy, particularly through evidence-based policymaking, marine conservation, and sustainable fisheries practices.
Representing youth perspectives in science, Ms. Everlyn Kimanthi, chair of the Scientists of Kenya Association (SCOKA) emphasized the importance of creating inclusive spaces that empower emerging researchers and amplify youth contributions to national development.
KeFS expressed strong support for the upcoming Festival and welcomed partnerships that promote science-led, sustainable development in the fisheries sector. The engagement underscored the need to co-create research agendas that are inclusive, responsive to sectoral needs, and geared toward long-term impact.
