
NRF Commences Landmark Research Data Security Training for Researchers
The National Research Fund (NRF) has officially launched a landmark Research Data Security Training, marking a decisive step in the Fund’s commitment to strengthening the quality, integrity, and impact of publicly funded research in Kenya. Bringing together a diverse cohort of experts from Universities, MDAs, and research institutions, the workshop focuses on the practical tools needed to secure the nation’s intellectual and economic assets.
In opening remarks delivered on his behalf, the CEO underscored that safeguarding research outputs (including data, intellectual property, and expertise) is a national imperative. He noted that robust research security is essential to ensuring that public investments drive economic growth, maintain public trust, and deliver lasting development impact.
The first day of the workshop moved beyond theory, diving into the technicalities of data governance, international best practices, and the critical importance of disclosure requirements. The sessions were met with high engagement, with participants highlighting the training as a vital resource for the entire research community.
The workshop continues through 13th February 2026, focusing on the seamless integration of security protocols into everyday research management. Together, we are ensuring that Kenyan research remains secure, trusted, and globally impactful.
