NRF CEO Underscores Role of Research and Innovation in Climate Action at EIK Conference

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Research Fund (NRF), Prof. Dickson Andala, was the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony of the 5th EIK International Environmental Conference & Expo 2026, held in Mombasa on 29 October 2026.

Organised by the Environment Institute of Kenya (EIK), the three-day conference ran from 28 to 30 October under the theme Climate Financing Frontiers 2026: Unlocking Capital for a Climate-Resilient Future. It brought together policymakers, researchers, environmental professionals, development partners and other stakeholders to explore approaches to mobilising climate finance and strengthening climate resilience.

Discussions at the conference highlighted the need to bridge the gap between scientific research, policy and investment, ensuring that research findings inform decisions and contribute to practical solutions to environmental challenges. The conversations also underscored the importance of collaboration among research institutions, government, the private sector and development partners in advancing climate action.

In his remarks, Prof. Andala emphasised the importance of placing research and innovation at the centre of climate action, noting that:

“Research and innovation must remain at the center of our climate response. We must strengthen the connection between scientific knowledge, policy, and investment, ensuring that research generates practical solutions that advance climate resilience and sustainable development.”

NRF’s participation reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to supporting research and innovation that respond to national development priorities, including climate change. It also highlighted the importance of translating scientific knowledge into evidence-based policies, informed investment and solutions that address environmental challenges.
