NRF Explores Strategic Alignment with Universities Fund Ahead of KNRF 2025

As part of preparations for the Kenya National Research Festival (KNRF) 2025, the National Research Fund (NRF) continued its stakeholder engagement efforts with a courtesy visit to the Universities Fund. The meeting was led by NRF CEO Prof. Dickson Andala, accompanied by KNRF 2025 Chair Prof. Vasey Mwaja.

The discussions focused on enhancing strategic alignment between research funding and higher education priorities in Kenya. Both institutions underscored the need to ensure that university research is well-resourced, relevant to national development goals, and adequately linked to innovation ecosystems. By aligning funding mechanisms and institutional mandates, NRF and the Universities Fund aim to create an enabling environment for impactful research, especially within public universities.

The Universities Fund expressed strong support for KNRF 2025 and welcomed deeper collaboration with NRF in advancing Kenya’s research and innovation agenda. The engagement reaffirmed the importance of cross-sector partnerships in building a robust research ecosystem. It also set the stage for potential joint initiatives and policy dialogue platforms that can enhance research governance, financing, and visibility across academic institutions.
