NRF Supports and Participates in the 13th National Biosafety Conference

The National Research Fund (NRF) was proud to both support and participate in the 13th Annual Biosafety Conference, hosted by the National Biosafety Authority (NBA) in Naivasha. The three-day conference (June 10 – 12) convened leading voices in biotechnology, biosafety regulation, academia, government, and the private sector to reflect on the role of biosafety in advancing national development through science and innovation.

Under the theme “Building Trust and Ensuring Safety of GMOs,” the conference focused on strengthening regulatory systems, enhancing public awareness, and promoting responsible application of biotechnology in areas such as agriculture, health, and environmental sustainability.

As a key supporter, NRF reaffirmed its commitment to enabling research that is safe, ethical, and aligned with national goals. The Fund actively engages with biosafety-regulatory frameworks to ensure that its grant-funded projects meet the highest standards of safety, transparency, and public accountability.

Through support for this year’s conference, NRF also contributed to knowledge exchange among researchers, policymakers, and the public; strengthening trust in science and encouraging innovation that responds to Kenya’s most pressing challenges.

The Fund looks forward to continued collaboration with NBA and other partners in advancing biosafety and biotechnology research that drives Kenya’s socio-economic transformation.
